Assisted Living Facility

Assisted Living Facilities are designed to help those who have difficulty caring for themselves to the extent that they can no longer safely live in their own home. In these facilities,  non-medical staff, or caregivers, are available to assist them 24-hours per day. Individuals generally live in a private studio, private apartment, or a shared apartment. This type of living arrangement is ideal for those who are still able to live with some independence, prefer a social living model and require minimal to moderate assistance with activities of daily living, such as: light housecleaning, bathing, dressing, eating, and mobility. Medication management, transportation and additional amenities are often offered.

Board and Care Homes

Board and Care Homes are smaller communities often with 4-11 residents. They are distinguished from assisted living facilities by providing a more "home-like" atmosphere and are typically single family homes that have been converted.

These homes are non–medical facilities that provide a room, meals, housekeeping, supervision, storage, medication management and personal care assistance with hygiene, dressing, eating, bathing and transferring.

Memory and Dementia Care

Memory and Dementia care refers to facilities offering increased or specialized services for people living with various levels of confusion. These units offer both private and shared living spaces and are typically required to offer a more secured environment than an Assisted Living or Board and Care Home. Many exist as a wing within an assisted living facility. Twenty-four hour, supervised care is provided by staff trained to care for the specific needs and demands of these residents. Memory care units offer the same services as assisted living facilities with activities that are intended to stimulate the memory.
